Dayner Tafur-Diaz

In 2023 Dayner Tafur-Díaz came to international attention when he won the German Conducting Award. In 2022 he had also won first prize at the International Opera Conducting Competition of the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège (Belgium).

Born in Peru, Tafur-Díaz began his musical education on the trumpet, gaining his first experiences at a young age as a conductor during an orchestra project. In 2017 he moved to Germany and, as part of a voluntary service, assisted conductor Knut Andreas in leading ensembles and youth orchestras at the Georg-Friedrich-Händel-Gymnasium in Berlin.

In 2018, Tafur-Díaz began his training as a conductor at the Berufsfachschule für Musik Mittelfranken, specializing in orchestral conducting under the guidance of Uwe Münch. Since October 2019, he has been studying orchestral conducting with Rasmus Baumann at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart, and since 2023 has been a scholarship recipient at the Forum Dirigieren of the Deutscher Musikrat. Orchestras he has worked with include the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Orchestre Symphonique de Mulhouse, Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, Philharmonie Baden-Baden, and Sinfonía por el Perú, the latter founded by Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez.
