Gerben Jongsma

Born into a musical family in Drachten, the Netherlands, Gerben Jongsma received his first percussion lessons from Henri de Boer at the age of seven. At the age of sixteen, Gerben enrolled at the Sweelinck Academy, the young talent programme of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, to study with with Arjan Jongsma. Gerben won several prizes at the national finals of the 2019 Princess Christina Competition and performed on Dutch national radio and television multiple times. 

In 2024, Gerben completed his bachelor studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where his teachers included Mark Braafhart, Bence Major, Richard Jansen, Rachel Xi Zhang and, at a later stage, Bart Jansen and Agostinho Sequiera. He remains based in Amsterdam in order to pursue his master’s degree, focusing on orchestral percussion playing. Gerben has performed with orchestras such as the NJO National Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands, Het Balletorkest and the Noord Nederlands Orkest (NNO).
