Holly Choe
Holly Hyun Choe has served as assistant conductor to Paavo Järvi with the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich since the 2020–21 season. Choe studied clarinet and music education in Long Beach and obtained a master’s degree in wind conducting from the New England Conservatory. She went on to study orchestral conducting with Johannes Schlaefli at the Zurich University of the Arts. Choe has performed with the Orchestre de Paris, made her debut at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg with the Ensemble Reflektor and served as guest conductor at the Camerata-DAVOS Festival in Switzerland. She has assisted Esa-Pekka Salonen, Leonard Slatkin, Simone Young, Francois-Xavier Roth, Frank Strobel, and Karina Canellakis. She has participated in masterclasses presided over by Bernard Haitink, Jorma Panula, Neeme Järvi, Jaap van Zweden and Teodor Currentzis. Choe is a recipient of the Career Assistance Award from the Solti Foundation U.S. and an Award Recipient of the Taki Alsop Conducting Fellowship.
