Eke van Spiegel
Eke van Spiegel studied at the Utrecht School of the Arts with Joyce Tan and from 1997 at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Lex Korff de Gidts, where she completed the first phase of her studies in 2001. She then concluded the second phase of her studies with Vesko Eschkenazy in 2003. After winning an Erasmus Scholarship, she spent time at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna in 2000, where she studied with Ernst Kovacic. Eke van Spiegel has participated in masterclasses with Joseph Silverstein, Sylvia Rosenberg en Thomas Brandis, among others.
She has won prizes at the Princess Christina Competition, the Charles Hennen Competition and the Aberdeen International Youth Festival chamber music competition.
Van Spiegel joined the second violin section of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 2006. She is also a member of various chamber music ensembles, including Ensemble Lumaka, which toured the leading Dutch concert halls in 2009 as part of the Het Debuut concert series. The ensemble was subsequently awarded the Audience Prize for best debuting ensemble. In the same year, Eke van Spiegel completed her master studies Information Law at the University of Amsterdam.
Since 2008 Eke van Spiegel has a violin on loan, which Foundation Concertgebouworkest bought for her from the estate of Oskar Back in 2008. Attributed to Nicolo Gagliano, this violin was built in Naples in 1763.
