Georgina Poad
The British double bassist Georgina Poad began her studies aged nine at the Royal College of Music Junior Department. Within two years she was admitted to the Yehudi Menuhin School and in 1997 was a prize-winner at the International Society of Bassists competition in Houston (USA).
She studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Corin Long and Duncan McTier and during her study years in London was working regularly as a substitute with the best orchestras in the UK, including the London Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra. From 2003 until 2007 Georgina was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra.
Shortly before graduating from the Royal Academy she won the audition for the Concertgebouworkest, assuming her position in August 2007.
Alongside her work for the Concertgebouworkest she is also a keen chamber musician, performing and recording with other ensembles and orchestras in the UK, Netherlands, Italy and Germany.
Georgina plays a double bass from the collection of Foundation Concertgebouworkest, built by J.F. Lott Sr. in London in about 1830. Lott is known as the 'King of the English bass-makers.'
