About this concert
Honorary guest conductor Iván Fischer will conduct the orchestra in the middle of the main hall, surrounded by the musicians and the audience, sitting side by side. This allows listeners to experience the orchestral sound from the inside out. The subtle orchestral colours used by Debussy, Ravel and Poulenc will be encountered in a new way. Truly an ear-opener!
Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel are seen as masters in creating subtle and transparent orchestral colours. Ravel’s ballet music for Daphnis et Chloé is a perennial audience favourite. Debussy’s and Poulenc’s orchestrations of Erik Satie’s exotic sounding piano works helped to elevate their eccentric friend’s reputation. Debussy’s early work, Printemps will also grace the programme.
