Festive free open-air concert in Amsterdam-Zuidoost
Celebrate the opening of the new season with the Concertgebouw Orchestra! This year, the orchestra is giving its annual free open-air concert at Nelson Mandela Park in Amsterdam-Zuidoost, with conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada and a special guest role for the well-known Dutch musician sor.
Opening Night 2024 promises to be a thrilling performance full of rhythm and energy.

About this concert
Join us at the Concertgebouw Orchestra’s free open-air concert! It promises to be a thrilling performance full of rhythm and energy, featuring music by such well-known composers as Strauss and Stravinsky, exciting new sounds by Anna Meredith and Joey Roukens, and with a special guest role for the well-known Dutch musician sor.
Her Majesty the Queen will be present during the concert. Queen Máxima of the Netherlands is the orchestra's patroness.
Mini-festival - Opening Night 2024 will take the form of a mini-festival, complete with food trucks. From 4.00 p.m., we will organise an open stage for local talent with performances by Bijlmer Got Talent, Bijlmer Steelband, DUEGRO, Georgy Morhea & friends, Interlude string quartet, Kabier Noor Mohamed, Kaylee & band and Wazzup Singers (B! Music School) & Southeast Community Choir presented by B! Music School and Dutch National Opera & Ballet. This event is hosted by Graziëlla Hunsel Rivero. From 7.00 to 7.30 p.m., there will be a joint performance by the Leerorkest (‘Learning Orchestra’), former participants of the summer project Concertgebouworkest Young and young talents from B! Music School in collaboration with Dutch National Opera & Ballet.
The main concert by the Concertgebouw Orchestra starts at 8.15 p.m.
Television: The concert will be televised the following evening at 11.00 p.m. on NPO 2.
Making the rounds through the city - After performances on Dam Square, in Westerpark and at the NDSM Wharf, the Concertgebouw Orchestra now takes to Nelson Mandela Park in Amsterdam-Zuidoost, where it has been organising the Bijlmer Klassiek cross-over series with the Bijlmer Parktheater since 2022. Thus, the orchestra’s Opening Night makes the rounds through the city.
