Alain Altinoglu

Alain Altinoglu was born in Paris, where he studied at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique and where he now teaches orchestral conducting. The conductor was appointed music director of La Monnaie in Brussels in 2016, where he not only leads opera productions, but is also chief conductor of the La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra. He also assumed the post of music director of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony at the beginning of the 2021–22 season.

Altinoglu’s international career has taken off in recent years. He conducted such orchestras as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Wiener Philharmoniker, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Münchner Philharmoniker, Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, most of the leading American orchestras, as well as all the major Parisian orchestras. His opera productions include Massenet’s Werther at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Verdi’s Macbeth at the Vienna State Opera, Mozart’s Don Giovanni at Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London and Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer at Opernhaus Zürich. He has also made appearances at the festivals of Bayreuth, Salzburg, Orange and Aix-en-Provence. 

Altinoglu made his Concertgebouw Orchestra debut in March 2020 conducting works by Rihm, Ravel and Franck. 

In addition to conducting, Altinoglu is involved in the song repertoire as a pianist, having worked with singers including his wife, the mezzo-soprano Nora Gubisch, in both the concert hall and the recording studio.
