Izak Hudnik

Izak Hudnik Zajec joined the cello section of the Concertgebouw Orchestra in November, 2024. A former participant of the orchestra’s Academy (2022-23 season), he is the sixteenth Academy alumnus to join he orchestra proper. 

After finishing his studies with Giovanni Gnocchi at the Mozarteum Salzburg, Izak Hudnik continued his training at the Zurich University of the Arts with Thomas Grossenbacher, alongside a specialisation in contemporary music with Martina Schucan.  

Prior to this, the Slovenian cellist studied with Miloš Mlejnik in Ljubljana and with Reinhard Latzko in Vienna. He has participated in masterclasses with Steven Isserlis, Troels Svane, Jens Peter Maintz, Mario Brunello, Heinrich Schiff and Maxim Vengerov.  

During the 2022-23 season, Hudnik participated in the Academy of the Concertgebouw Orchestra.  

As a soloist, Hudnik has appeared with ensembles such as the Zagreb Soloists, the Württemberg Philharmonic Reutlingen and the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra. A seasoned chamber musician, he has appeared at international festivals such as Trame Sonore Mantova, the Ostrava Days for new music, Festival Ljubljana, Accademia dei Cameristi Bari and Slowind.  

In addition to his musical activities, he is a Ph.D. candidate at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Ljubljana. He writes and lectures about the phenomenology of music, especially as it pertains to the question of musical absorption.
