Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra to play Romeo and Juliet during Children’s Concerts (6+) and School Concerts
This time the famous lovers choose a different ending
Long, long ago... (or maybe even long before long ago)... there were two families living in the same street. And these two families had been quarrelling for so long that no one remembered what the quarrel was about....
On Sunday 19 March, children ages 6 and up are more than welcome to hear Romeo and Juliet played by the Concertgebouw Orchestra in their latest Children’s Concert. Performances are at 1:00 and 3:30 p.m. Nuno Coelho will conduct Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s music. Actors Amy van der Weerden and Jacob de Groot, will perform a fresh new version of the story of these star-crossed lovers. The text (in Dutch) was written by Sanne Schuhmacher, the stage director is Caecilia Thunnissen.
The Concertgebouw Orchestra will introduce children to the most famous pair of lovers of all time, whose story ended tragically in Shakespeare’s beloved stage play. Tchaikovsky felt so sorry for the pair that he composed the most beautiful music for them he could imagine. But this time, Romeo and Juliet themselves will choose a new ending...
On Thursday 16 and Friday 17 March, the production will be performed five times in total as a School Concert. Students from groups 7 and 8 in several schools have been invited to these performances, given in collaboration with The Concertgebouw.
