Richard Strauss’ oboe concerto – with soloist Ivan Podyomov
In this live recording, made in The Concertgebouw in 2020, with conductor Semyon Bychkov, our principal oboist Ivan Podyomov shines in Richard Strauss' lyrical Oboe Concerto.
The concerto was composed in 1945, at the end of his life. The work is often described as illustrative of his ‘"Indian summer’" and allows the oboe’s expressive qualities to come out. This performance with Ivan Podyomov and conductor Semyon Bychkov perfectly reflects the nostalgia in Strauss' late works.
Mahler 1 with Mariss Jansons on vinyl
One of the bestsellers from the RCO Live catalogue, Mariss Jansons conducting Gustav Mahler's First Symphony, was released last year for the first time on LP.
A release that will delight music lovers and audiophiles alike.
All nine Bruckner symphonies in one box
With still two symphonies to go in our Bruckner cycle <<link concertcollecties>>, we’d like to bring your attention to our box set of the nine ‘numbered’ symphonies. The box contains the best performances, from the early 1970s on, with seven prominent conductors including Bernard Haitink, Riccardo Chailly and Mariss Jansons.
With good reason The Guardian wrote: ‘It goes without saying that the orchestral playing is uniformly superb, a reminder, if any were needed, that over the last half century the RCO has had few peers among the world’s orchestras.’
