About this concert
It is certainly no cliché to speak of Herbert Blomstedt as a living legend. The Swedish master has been conducting for nearly seventy years. He is praised for his vibrant tone, with no frills or fuss, particularly in the repertoire of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Blomstedt has previously led the Concertgebouw Orchestra in the Fifth and Sixth Symphonies of Bruckner. Now this acclaimed collaboration continues with Bruckner’s Fourth, which the composer himself tellingly called his ‘Romantic’.
Violinist Janine Jansen, too, is a welcome guest, having performed over fifty times with the Concertgebouw Orchestra in violin concertos by composers ranging from Bartók to Britten and from Bruch to Berg. Now, for the very first time, she is performing Mozart, whose Fourth Violin Concerto is sure to be in good hands.
