Laurens Woudenberg
Despite being the child of professional musicians himself, Laurens Woudenberg did not always presume that he too would take that path. As a student, and even during the beginning of his professional music career, he was also working in healthcare services for the disabled and at Circus Kristal.
When Laurens was nine years old he was given his first horn lessons by Louise Schepel, hornist with the Residentie Orkest. These inspirational lessons notwithstanding, he exchanged his horn for a bass guitar after five years. A matter of image.
His love for the horn was bigger than he realised, however. At the age of 17 he took horn lessons again. Woudenberg studied with Hans Dullaert and Herman Jeurissen at the Royal Conservatoire in his city of birth, The Hague.
In 2006 Laurens Woudenberg joined the horn section of Het Gelders Orkest, where he ultimately became principal hornist. In addition to his position with this orchestra, he subbed for several other renowned orchestras and ensembles. Since 2012 Laurens Woudenberg has been principal hornist with the Concertgebouworkest.
Laurens has a great passion for playing chamber music. He can often be heard playing with Camerata Concertgebouworkest and Concertgebouworkest Brass.
Laurens plays three different horns from the Foundation Concertgebouworkest's collection: a Wagner tuba, a double horn and a descant horn from builder Klaus Fehr. Two of these horns were donated to the Foundation by private donors from Switzerland.
Laurens Woudenberg made his debut as a soloist with the Concertgebouworkest in April 2016.
