Olivier Thiery
The Frenchman Olivier Thiery received his first double bass lessons at the age of fifteen by his father, Georges Thiery. In 2008, after graduating from the Folkwang University of Arts in Essen, Germany, Thiery moved to Amsterdam, where he was appointed as a permanent member with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 2008. In 2009 he was awarded a third prize in the 58th international ARD competition in Munich.
Olivier Thiery regularly appears in solo recitals and chamber music performances at festivals all over Europe, such as the chamber music festivals of West Cork and Schiermonnikoog and Musique à l'Emperi in Salon de Provence. Since 2014, he teaches at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
In 2013, together with the pianist Sophie Labandibar, Thiery recorded Illuminated Bass, his first CD for the Challenge Records label including works by Schubert, Schumann, Hindemith and Bottesini.
In 2021 Foundation Concertgebouworkest purchased a J.F. Lott II double bass (ca. 1850) for Olivier and given it to him on loan.
