Tatjana Vassiljeva - Monnier
Tatjana Vassiljeva-Monnier is first principal cellist of the Concertgebouw Orchestra since August 2014. She began her cello studies in her hometown of Novosibirsk and in Moscow. In 1994, she moved to Munich to study with Walter Nothas at the Musikhochschule, going on to study with David Geringas at the Musikhochschule Berlin.
Winner of numerous international competitions, including the Grand Prix at the 2001 Rostropovitch competition, Vassiljeva-Monnier has performed as soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic, Orchestre de Paris, St Petersburg Philharmonic, Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and the New Japan Philharmonic.
She has premiered works by several composers, notably Krzysztof Penderecki: Vassiljeva-Monnier premiered the revised version of the Polish composer's Largo and recorded his Second Cello Concerto.
Vassiljeva-Monnier has received several awards for her discography, including a Diapason d’or for her CD of contemporary works and a CHOC for her recording of Bach’s Cello Suites. With string players from the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra she founded the Berlin Philharmonic String Quintet in 2007, which has toured Europe and Asia.
In 2023 Vassiljeva-Monnier was appointed Professor at the Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe, Germany.
Tatjana plays a Matteo Goffriller from 1690, kindly loaned by the Willem Mengelberg Stiftung from Switzerland through the Foundation Concertgebouworkest.
