Théotime Voisin
Théotime Voisin is assistant principal double bass of the Concertgebouw Orchestra since October 2016. Previously he was guest principal double bass of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (2015-2016) and principal bass player of the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse during the 2016-2017 season.
Théotime Voisin first became interested in the double bass at the age of five thanks to Jean Ané, principal double bassist at the Montpellier National Orchestra. At fifteen, he undertook studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon with Bernard Cazauran and graduated with highest honors. Joining the European Union Youth Orchestra for six consecutive years at fourteen, Théotime Voisin became an appreciated substitute player in the main French orchestras. He continued his studies with Alberto Bocini at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève where he obtained an instrumental soloist Master's degree with highest honors. He went on to study at the Bern Hochschule der Künste and concluded his studies in 2016 in the class of Božo Paradžik at the Freiburg Musikhochschule.
Théotime Voisin has won awards at the 2008 Valentino Bucchi International Competition in Rome, the Jeunes Interprètes International Competition at the 2010 Paris Festival d'Automne de, the 2010 J.M. Sperger Competition (Interpretation Award), the 2011 International Society of Bassists Solo Competition in San Francisco, and the 2012 Bass Solo Competition in Copenhagen.
A reputed chamber musician, Théotime Voisin has played with a number of chamber music ensembles in France and abroad, including the Lemanic Modern Ensemble in Geneva and the Ensemble intercontemporain. He is also regularly invited to perform as a soloist with orchestra, or in recital.
In October 2011, he organised a fundraising tour in Ecuador for the benefit of children with cancer. He took advantage of his stay in Ecuador to offer master classes in several conservatories and collaborate with the Ecuadorian popular singer Hernan Sotomayor.
In 2013, Italian label NBB records published his CD Contre-jour, Musica francese al Contrabbasso.
In 2021 the Foundation Concertgebouworkest was able to purchase a particular bass for Theotime: a bass built by Vincenzo Corain (1848) in Trieste. Foundation Concertgebouworkest gave him this bass on loan.
