Honorine Schaeffer
Born in a family of artists, Honorine Schaeffer began playing the cello at the age of six at the conservatoire of her native town Avignon (France). After studying with Cyrille Tricoire at the Montpellier Conservatory, she entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris, where she studied with Michel Strauss and Marc Coppey, completing her master's degree with the highest awards. In 2007 she won the young talent prize of the Karl Flesch Academy, and in 2012 the first prize at the Lions European Musical Competition.
In 2013 Schaeffer continued her studies with Leonid Gorokhov at the Hochschule für Musik in Hanover, graduating in 2019 with a solo diploma at the highest degree.
Always having had a keen interest in symphonic music, she participated in the Académie de l'Orchestre de Paris in 2008 and the Académie de l'Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France in 2009. During the 2012-13 season, she took part in the Academy of the Concertgebouworkest, the following season in the Karajan Akademie of the Berliner Philharmoniker. Winning the auditions for the Concertgebouworkest aged twenty-two, she joined the orchestra’s cello section in August 2014.
The cellist formed the GoYa Quartet in 2014 with three colleagues from the Concertgebouworkest. In 2015, the quartet won the Prix de Salon, the annual prize awarded to the members of the orchestra by the business community of the Concertgebouworkest.
Either with her quartet or in solo performance. she has performed in prestigious concert halls in the Netherlands, Belgium, France and the Baltic countries.
