Sylvia Huang

Born in 1994, the Belgian violinist Sylvia Huang received her first violin lessons from her father and continued her studies at the Académie des Arts de la Ville de Bruxelles. She won first prizes at the Belfius Classics National Musical Competition in 2004 and the Lions European Musical Competition in 2008. Sylvia Huang was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra from 2009 to 2010 before joining the second violin section of the Belgian National Orchestra in September 2012. She was promoted to the position of co-principal violinist a year and a half later. Sylvia Huang has been a member of the first violin section of the Concertgebouw Orchestra since August Sylvia took part in several international festivals such as B-Classic, the Échappées Musicales du Médoc, the Festival Musiq'3 and also the Festival de Wallonie. In May 2019, she became laureate of the Queen Elisabeth International Competition and was awarded the Musiq’3 Audience Prize and the Canvas-Klara Prize. Moreover, she was named Young Musician of the Year 2019, being awarded the Prix Caecilia by the Belgian Music Press UnAs a passionate chamber musician, she founded the GoYa Quartet Amsterdam with three orchestra colleagues. The Prix de Salon 2015, awarded by the business network of the Concertgebouw Orchestra, enabled the GoYa Quartet Amsterdam to record two live performances of all Brahms and Schumann string quartets.
