Dovas Lietuvninkas
Born in Chicago, Dovas Lietuvninkas attended the Eastman School of Music, where he studied with James Thompson and graduated with degrees in trumpet performance and music education. In 2017, he received a Fulbright grant from the American government to enroll in the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre in Vilnius. There he was instructed by Laurynas Lapė in trumpet, and in Lithuanian folk instruments by Saulius Petreikis. In 2021, he received his master’s degree from the Helsinki Sibelius Academy, where he studied with Pasi Pirinen and Miikka Saarinen.
Since 2018, Lietuvninkas has served as principle trumpet of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the St. Christopher and Lithuanian Chamber Orchestras, the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra and the Vilnius Sinfonietta. As a soloist he appeared with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, the Čiurlionis Quartet and the Sunday Brass Band, often commissioning and premiering pieces from local composers.
Lietuvninkas continues to teach privately as well as through the Sunday Brass Band’s educational outreach activities.
