About this concert

Members of the Concertgebouw Orchestra’s wind section are stepping out of the shadows to highlight the versatility of the wind ensemble on this Close-up concert, creating new sound worlds every time. Reicha’s elegant Trio for Two Horns and Bassoon is followed by Beethoven’s Quintet, in which three horns, oboe and bassoon alternately support and provoke one another. Berio’s playful Opus Number Zoo concludes the first half of the programme. A virtuoso solo for bassoon precedes Dvořák’s well-loved ‘American’ Quartet in an arrangement by David Walter.

Musicians of the Concertgebouw Orchestra perform their own programmes in the Recital Hall as part of the Close-up chamber music series. Each of these concerts is unique and performed only once as part of the series. It’s the very best way to experience the individual qualities of the orchestral musicians! These intimate concerts are organised by the Friends of the Concertgebouw and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
