About this concert
Just like last year when we celebrated the start of the season on Dam Square, the orchestra is once again looking forward to presenting itself on Opening Night at a special location in the city – Westerpark. This concert is supported by our global partners ING, Unilever and Booking.com.
The evening gets off to an energetic start with John Adams’s Short Ride in a Fast Machine. The programme continues with Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto, followed by a selection of dances for clarinet and orchestra, in which clarinet virtuoso Martin Fröst can truly shine. The evening concludes with Bernstein’s popular Symphonic Dances from West Side Story.
Under the direction of Alain Altinoglu, the orchestra is teaming up with clarinettist Martin Fröst – artist in residence this season – and the idiosyncratic pianist Víkingur Ólafsson.
Maria Fiselier will be presenting the event live, recorded in Westerpark for television broadcast on the AVROTROS network. The concert can be heard live on NPO Radio 4 and will be televised on NPO 2 at 10.15 p.m.
