About this concert
Bijlmer Klassiek, our adventurous collaboration with the Bijlmer Parktheater, is about to kick off its 2024-25 season on Sunday 10 November with The Red Palulu. Musicians and academy members of the Concertgebouw Orchestra engage in a musical collaboration with pianist Roderigo Robles de Medina and percussionist/trumpetist Walther Eddy Muringen, performing works by three composers originating from Surinam.
One of the most important Surinamese composers was Eddy Vervuurt (1928-1988). The musicians will perform his ballet music The Red Palulu, inspired by Coen Ooft’s story about a love triangle taking place in a Paramaribo backyard. In addition, the programme features the compelling Elegy by Vervuurt’s mentor, the composer and conductor Eddy Wessels, and the world premiere of a new composition by Amsterdam-based composer Martin Lo-A-Njoe, Moving Parts.
Bijlmer Klassiek - In Bijlmer Klassiek, we collaborate with the Bijlmer Parktheater in a series of groundbreaking concerts seamlessly blending a broad palette of different musical styles and genres from all over the world.
