Meet our academy students 2022/23
Since 2002
It has been twenty years since the Academy of the orchestra was formed, and during this time the training programme has developed into a successful institute, which now offers places for twelve talented young musicians during the season.
In 2002, at the initiative of percussionist Niels Le Large, the Concertgebouw Orchestra started a training programme that would give a few young musicians an opportunity to gain orchestral experience every season. Since then, the Academy of the Concertgebouw Orchestra has developed into an important bridge between the conservatory and the professional arena. Dozens of former Academy students have moved on to internationally renowned symphony orchestras.
The Concertgebouw Orchestra itself is welcoming its fourteenth Academy alumnus this month: second violinist Alessandro Di Giacomo, who successfully completed his time at the Academy last season, and in the meantime also passed the audition.
Anniversary concert
We will be celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the Academy of the Concertgebouw Orchestra's with a number of special events, including an Anniversary concert on 6 June at which many former students of the Academy will perform together.
The Academy is made possible by the Foundation Concertgebouworkest, which receives donations from Ammodo, the Dutch Masters Foundation, the Swiss Friends of the Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Don Quixote Foundation, De Salon, private donors and a number of commemorative funds.
